Walking through the streets of St Germain, Paris, Turner came across this store of books. But it wasn’t books that Turner saw. He was struck by a structured montage of pastel, coloured powders… luminuous limes, pinks, pale blues and lemon yellows, that turned books into towers of sherbets and sugar-powdered sweets.
